Domestic Abuse

At St Luke's Housing Society, we are committed to keeping all of our residents safe from harm.  Domestic abuse can affect men and women of any age, from any background or culture, or religion.  This can happen in any relationship, both heterosexual, same sex, between friends or family members that do no live together.

Abuse can take many forms, physical, emotional, sexual, financial, modern day slavery, coercive and controlling behaviour.  Some times it can be difficult to ask for help and support.  If you are experiencing domestic abuse and you would like to speak to someone confidentially, please reach out to a member of staff or any of the contacts below.

What can we do to help?

If you are in immediate danger, contact 999.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse, you can contact our staff who will arrange a confidential appointment with you in a safe location at a time which is convenient to you.  We will always listen to you and take your report seriously.  All information you give to us will be treated confidentially and sympathetically.  If we believe someone is at risk of harm, we do have a duty of care to report this to the relevant authorities, which include the local police, domestic abuse services and the local authority safeguarding team.   We will always be honest with you and discuss this with you beforehand.

We can arrange the following support for you:

  • Carry out a DASH (Domestic Abuse Stalking and Honour Based) Risk Assessment with you.  This will identify the risk level to an individual experiencing domestic abuse and will inform our decisions about what support is needed.

  • Refer you to specialist expert Domestic Abuse services who can minimise the risks to you, explain what options are available to you, discuss legal options around keeping safe.

  • We can organise emergency accommodation and refuge both short and long term and make place of safety referrals to the local authority housing department.

  • We can support you to report domestic abuse to the Police.

  • Safety measures - we can inspect your property and put additional safety measures in place to help to keep you safe.  For example, lock changes, extra bolts, chains and window locks.  We will also consider CCTV on advice from police.
